This webinar, led by Derya Hyusein, focuses on the critical issue of malnutrition in oncology patients. Malnutrition is a common and often overlooked complication in cancer care that can severely impact treatment outcomes, quality of life, and survival rates. The session will explore the causes, identification, and management of malnutrition in cancer patients, including the role of healthcare providers in addressing nutritional needs during cancer treatment. The webinar will also discuss practical strategies for nutritional support, including dietary interventions, supplementation, and the integration of nutrition care into oncology practice.

Derya Hyusein RD, MSc, CertHE, DipHE, BSc is a Registered Dietitian (HCPC) with experience in both acute and community settings. Her special interests are weight management, diabetes, oncology and health promotion. She is a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and Parental Nutrition Association (PEN). She pursued her Master’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at Robert Gordon University in Scotland (Aberdeen). Practiced her speciality as a Dietetic Intern in multiple hospitals in Glasgow and in one of the largest hospitals in Europe – Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). Her experience includes giving individualized dietary advice for patients with moderate to severe obesity, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, pancreatitis, IBS, ulcerative colitis and enteritis, alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, various food intolerances, autoimmune diseases, coeliac disease, pre-and post-op patients, and many other conditions. Consulted patients on parenteral and enteral nutrition in complex neurological, oncological, and surgical cases during her internships.
